|Description:||Outside In is looking for a cause-driven, innovative, empathic community builder to join us as our new Associate Medical Director. The Associate Medical Director assists the Medical Director in providing clinical oversight of Outside In primary care programs and performs professional work as a primary care provider in accordance with all professional practice standards and within the scope of licensure. The person in this role will conduct chart reviews and provide feedback to providers and RNs to improve clinical outcomes and assure evidence-based practices are embedded in patient care. They will also provide periodic educational sessions to support the clinical scope of practice. The Associate Medical Director is a part of Health Services and reports to the Medical Director.|
This is a full-time exempt position with an annual salary of $180,336 – $210,974. The person in this role will work 32 hours per week. 20 hours per week will be spent doing patient care as a physician, with the remaining 12 hours being focused on operational collaboration with the Medical Director.

What You’ll Do
In a Physician capacity you will:
• Provide patient-centered care in a certified medical home model.
• Provide a wide range of health care services including but not limited to:
o the diagnosis and management of acute, chronic, and complex health problems
o minor procedures, biopsies, and pelvic exams
o health promotion and health education
o disease prevention
o counseling to individuals, families, groups, and communities
• Perform history taking, physical examinations, diagnosis, and therapeutic treatment planning consistent with evidence-based practice guidelines, clinical policy and procedures, and the scope of practice.
• Maintain a panel of patients for Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction in conjunction with Outside In’s alcohol and drug treatment case management.
• Order and interpret diagnostic lab and radiologic tests assuring that results are communicated to individual patients or a parent/guardian of the patient.
• Share after-hours calls with other staff providers.
• Meet all regulatory obligations of the Health Center’s medical practice: FTCA, CLIA, HIPAA, State and Federal regulations and other appropriate regulatory bodies as applicable.
• Fully participate in the clinic and medical staff development through involvement in service evaluations, health care plans, chart reviews, and program development.
• Act as a resource and guide to the care team and communicate appropriate knowledge, skills, and conduct.
• Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving population health outcomes.
• Maintain a record of assessments, plans, treatments, and referrals.
In an Associate Medical Director capacity, you will:
• Meet at least once monthly with each provider to review chart audit outcomes and provide feedback and training recommendations as needed regarding medical assessment, diagnosis, medical management, and coding.
• Complete 10 chart reviews per provider per quarter to evaluate medical assessment, diagnosis, medical management, and appropriate coding, with the end goal of submitting documentation in a timely manner to the Compliance Manager.
• In collaboration with the Compliance Manager, review credentialing and re-credentialing files and provide recommendations to the Board for approval.
• Work with the billing department to support providers to optimize coding in response to billing audits
• Provide remote, curbside consultation about patient care to providers.
• Provide direct oversight and supervision to RNs. Conduct weekly supervision check-ins with RNs.
• Provide monthly clinical in-service trainings based on topics requested by providers and medical staff.
• Provide recommendations regarding evidence-based protocols and guidelines to be adopted by primary care services.
• Approve payroll for assigned staff.
• Address patient grievances and prepare responses in collaboration with the compliance manager.
• Develop provider workflows and procedures and provider competency tests and drills (the latter connected to quality assurance).
• Manage provider on-call schedule.
• Approve and track provider Continuing Medical Education.
• Assist with documentation to meet PCPCH requirements.
At least 2 years’ experience in an associate medical director role or equivalent role.
• At least five years’ experience providing direct care as a medical provider.
• Current Oregon licensure and board certification as Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy.
• Board-certified in Family Practice or Internal Medicine.
• Knowledge of pharmacology and medical/clinical decision-making.
• Full prescriptive authority in Oregon with a DEA number.
• An understanding of multi-disciplinary approaches to physical and mental health and chemical dependency, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).
• Experience engaging with and integrating the patient bill of rights, data privacy, record protection, HIPAA and 42CFR Part 2 regulations, as well as record retention policies into your daily work.
• Familiarity with the Integrated Patient-Centered Primary Care Home model.
