What is Oregon SEARCH?The Oregon Primary Care Association's (OPCA) Oregon SEARCH program is a community experience and rotation program for medical and dental students and residents. It provides learners from across the nation access to high quality learning experiences in Oregon safety net clinics serving diverse populations in urban and rural areas, with innovative models of primary care, including the patient-centered medical home model and multidisciplinary care teams. We work in partnership with our state Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Oregon's Primary Care Office (PCO), and Oregon's Office of Rural Health (ORH) to promote and implement this enhanced program. This program is funded by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration. Who qualifies for this program?Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Medical students, Dental students and Residents in Family Practice or Internal Medicine are eligible to apply. Once accepted, these learners will be provided with a SEARCH scholarship to complete 4-6 week rotations (depending on education program requirement, schedules, etc.) in safety net clinics serving vulnerable populations in urban and rural areas, identified throughout the State of Oregon. The scholarships will include housing, travel and a living expenses stipend. Where are these opportunities located?Oregon is a large and geographically diverse state. Opportunities are available throughout the state, in rural, frontier and urban areas (Find a Health Center). Health professionals-in-training will be matched with an available site based on their indicated preferences. What are the rotations like?Learners are paired with a clinical preceptor who teaches and mentors them while they are in clinics during regular clinic operating hours. In turn, learners complete a community assessment or community service activity. How do I apply? Please complete the application prior to your desired rotation start date. You will be notified within 30 days regarding the status of your application. Placement Site ApplicationPlease complete the Placement Interest Application to be considered for Oregon SEARCH placements. |
